Dynamics
From AudioLexic
- For a signal, the dynamics are the difference measured in dB between the lowest level and the highest level.
Be careful not to confuse dynamics with volume.
- For a recording media, dynamics is the difference mesured in dB between the noise level of the media type and the highest level possible.
In the digital domain, it is admitted that one bit covers 6 dB of dynamics. As an example, an audio CD with its resolution of 16 bits has a 96 dB dynamic.
