Expander

Expanders are boxes usually in rack format which are a synthesizer, a sampler or a workstation but with no keyboard. The origin of the name comes certainly from the Oberheim Xpander, which was a Matrix 12 with no keyboard, hence less expensive and less bulky.

As there's no keyboard, you control it thru MIDI.
